Flux Limitation Mechanisms Arising in Multiscale Modelling of Cancer Invasion

چکیده

Tumour invasion is an essential stage of cancer progression. Its main drivers are diffusion and taxis, a directed movement along the gradient stimulus. Here we review models with flux limited and/or taxis which have applications in modelling cell migration, particularly cancer. Flux limitation ensures control upon propagation speeds, precluding unnaturally quick spread typical for traditional parabolic equations. We recall properties effects discuss ways to construct them, concentrating on multiscale derivations from kinetic transport

Modelling multiscale aspects of colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is responsible for nearly half a million deaths annually worldwide [11]. We present a series of mathematical models describing the dynamics of the intestinal epithelium and the kinetics of the molecular pathway most commonly mutated in CRC, the Wnt signalling network. We also discuss how we are coupling such models to build a multiscale model of normal and aberrant guts....

The Difference of Expression of 18 Genes in Axillary Invasion and Vascular Invasion Compared to Control Samples in Breast Cancer

Background & Objective: Recent studies from gene profiling have revealed some genes that are overexpressed in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and are responsible for its initiation and activation resulting in tumor progression and metastasis. The present study aimed to assess the role of genes involved in the EMT process and the association of these genes wi...

Cancer Invasion: Patterns and Mechanisms

Cancer invasion and the ability of malignant tumor cells for directed migration and metastasis have remained a focus of research for many years. Numerous studies have confirmed the existence of two main patterns of cancer cell invasion: collective cell migration and individual cell migration, by which tumor cells overcome barriers of the extracellular matrix and spread into surrounding tissues....

Modelling molecular mechanisms of breast cancer and invasion: lessons from the normal gland.

The interplay between genes and environment is complex, particularly when it comes to cancer. Studies on breast cancer cells have shown that environmental influences dominate over genotype in their effect on phenotype, and can cause cancerous cells to revert to a non-malignant phenotype, while remaining genotypically malignant. Using breast tissue in three-dimensional cell culture has proved a ...
